Today, the Alchemists draw our biohacking inspiration from blood work and blood chemistry. So, what is noteworthy about blood chemistry and biohacking? Let's peel back the layers and tap into the major veins of thought, reason, and application for blood analysis. 


For those uninitiated with the nuances of the bio-hack, blood work can be wildly valuable (as well as wildly misleading) in some cases, ergo - one should proceed with caution and cross-reference your sources, personal results, and the approach or methodology taken by the lab / phlebotomist.


Blood work is the analysis of person’s blood chemistry that allows the person to learn more about the inside of their bodies at a biochemical level.

Blood work is an internal snapshot of us in time and some people get their blood work to monitor their exercise and diet. Okay, yea, but what does that really mean? For starters there are various properties that comprise the "chemical essence" of our blood. Let's look at a high level view of a handful of these characteristics:



As mentioned previously, each individual blood work needs to be interpreted because two people with identical blood work can have a varying blood work conclusion based on their age, genetics, life history, and current living situation.

The importance of blood sugar regulation:

Let's segue into the topic of blood sugar, which is the foundation of health. The entire (phsyiological) goal of eating (sorry foodies) is to turn foods into sugar (glucose), which is a major source of energy.

Proteins, fruits, and vegetables are all turned into glucose at a different rate. A glucometer is a very convenient way to measure and manage glucose concentration in blood and interpret the direct effect of foods that a person consumes on the blood glucose level.

When we eat, the food becomes broken down into vitamins and minerals that get absorbed and causes blood sugar to respond.

Insulin is a hormone that is secreted in response to blood sugar levels. Insulin enhances the entry of glucose into cells by unlocking the cells so that nutrients can rush into cells and become energy.

At different periods, blood sugar should be at a certain level. If not, the body is not able to adequately put the sugars into cells. See the infographic below for more details. 


One goal of restoring optimal health is balancing the blood sugar (usually between 75-90). Research shows that fasting blood sugar of 90, increases the risk for heart disease.

When your body doesn’t process certain foods or is slightly intolerant to some foods, the inflammation levels will go up which can be seen at different inflammatory markers. Blood sugar level or cholesterol level are also likely to increase.
